2006 GOALS
Mrs. Lutz stated that the purpose of this meeting is to determine what safety issues are most pressing and determine what goals and objectives the Committee should establish to deal with those issues. Chief Brosius reminded the Committee that the Village was awarded the 2005 Platinum Award by the Ohio Motorists Association for pedestrian and motorists safety programs. He further related that there have been no pedestrian fatalities in the Village in over 35 years. He stated that the programs are in place and will be re-instituted in 2006. He added that a new program dealing with underage drinking and driving will take place on May 11, 2006 at Parkside Church.
Mrs. Lutz indicated that in discussion with the Chief, there are other issues that the Committee should look into that involve children and the internet, identity theft, and crimes against the elderly. Chief Brosius remarked that the department has an officer assigned, on a part-time basis, to the County Prosecutor’s Office. Sgt. Capwill works with the ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) Task Force as an investigator. Sgt. Capwill has made three presentations on the subject to parents and children in our local area. Chief Brosius further indicated that Detective Tim Reed is working with the identity theft and elder crime problem. He has made several presentations to senior citizens and local civic groups. The Committee agreed to set goals for underage drinking and driving, elder crimes, internet crimes, and identity theft.
Discussion was had on the visibility of crosswalks on Main Street. Mr. Himes reported that the striping agreement called for white striping on the borders of the brick crosswalks. He indicated that he will follow up with the contractor when the pavement is conducive to painting the stripes.
There were no further questions, comments, or recommendations.
The meeting adjourned at 5:52 p.m.
